Here we are in the first week of the new year and I am sure the majority of our population is walking out some type of resoulution. We like the beginning of the new year because it’s like a fresh start for us.
We all begin the new year with high hopes of our resolution making it past the 21 day mark, because that’s when it becomes a habit. Sadly though we don’t always make it to the 21 day mark.
I don’t know if you are like me, but when I don’t keep my resolution, I feel like a failure.
So, during the last few days of 2016 I was talking with my friend Laci about this year’s resolutions, when she said, “You know, I don’t ever keep my resolutions. This year, I feel like God want’s me to focus on believing the promises he has for me rather than focusing on resolutions.”
I love what Laci shared! And honestly, I needed to hear it…I think we all need to hear it.
Resolutions aren’t bad, but what about doing things differently this year. What about choosing to believe the promises God has for you?
What if this year you chose to believe that you don’t have to earn God’s love, or that you are chosen and not rejected. Or how about believing Isaiah 41:10…
Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
Different resources say that there is anywhere from 3,000 -8,000 of God’s promises that are available for every believer. I’m not going to argue about the number, but I’m blown away by how many of the promises I have not been believing or I don’t even know about!
The good new is, when God makes a promise to his children, he keeps it. He is trustworthy, he is unchanging, he is faithful and he has the power to fulfill every promise!
Resolutions are fine, but can I challenge you to believe God’s promises this year? I promise you the positive change you will get from these promises will top any resolution.
Here are a few promises just to get you started…
John 16:23 In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you.
Psalm 84:11 For Jehovah God is our Light and our Protector. He gives us grace and glory. No good thing will He withhold from those who walk along his paths.
Jeremiah 30:17 For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord
James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
What about you, what promises are you going to believe? What promises have you seen fulfilled in your life so far? Are there any promises you struggle with?
I’m believing God is going to give me new strength — Isaiah 40:31
