How Do You Do God’s Will If You Don’t Know What It Is?

First be passionate to do God’s will. John 7:17 The Passion Translation

Have you ever made God’s will out to be some secret code that was hidden and only the spiritually elite could find it and understand it? I have.

In all honesty, I was just too blind to see. I let myself get in the way.

God doesn’t make His will out to be some code that only an intellectual powerhouse could understand. He doesn’t hide it from us, He wants us to know His will and to be passionate about it so that we can impact the world around us.

Jesus lays God’s will out clearly for us in Matthew 22:37-39

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

God’s will is love…Love God and love others.

Loving people, His creation, is at the center of His heart. Bringing people into His love is His will. Having people consumed and living in His love is His will. And John exhorts us to be passionate to do God’s will.

And what about “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Some of us struggle with the subjects of this commandment. You either struggle to love your neighbor (which is everyone) or you struggle to love yourself, or you struggle to do both. Which are you?

Are you living loved? Do you know the love of God? Do you see yourself the way He sees you? If your not sure, listen to your self-talk. Is it negative or destructive? If it is, then that’s not God speaking. He is gracious and compassionate, loving and kind, generous and merciful.

Secondly, who is the neighbor that you could love on today? Is it your literal neighbor, or the elderly person who is homebound, or that lady you keep running into at the grocery store. Would loving your neighbor look like taking a cup of coffee to a friend who is discouraged and spending some time with them. Maybe loving your neighbor is helping serve the Hurricane Harvey victims.

So where are you in this equation? Have you been passionate to do God’s will? I’ll be honest, I can’t say that I always am. I tend to get so focused on my little world that I miss out on doing His life giving will. I end up hoarding His love rather than giving it away. But what’s cool about God, is it doesn’t matter how much love you give away to others, He will never stop filling you back up with love!

Wherever you are physically, spiritually, and emotionally would you be passionate to do God’s will today? And may you be rooted and grounded in God’s love, and know how deep, how wide, how long and how high God’s love is for you!

Love God and Love others

Be Blessed
