Make God the utmost delight and pleasure of your life, and He will provide for you what you desire the most. Psalm 37:4 The Passion Translation
Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 (NKJV)
A month ago I had a dream that has continued to stir within me reminding me to enjoy God. In my dream I played tag with Jesus!!
Usually when I know I am having a dream that I can feel God’s presence in, I am always in amazement and my mind is trying to absorb every detail of my dream. I don’t want to miss any tidbit because I know with each word spoken and each detail pointed out God has a powerful word He wants to share with me.
With this in mind you probably can picture how focused I was, just waiting on the edge of my seat, expectant to hear what God had for me. Now what’s funny about this is that I know God knew I was going to respond this way.
As I enter into this dream I realized that I was in an open space. As I am scanning the area I realize that Jesus is standing before me and He is smiling (not just a grin, but one of those “I got ya” kind of smiles) with a laugh under His breath. His arms are open and welcoming me to come to Him for a bear hug! Of course as my eyes meet His I began to laugh as well but I am a little confused as to what is going on. My confusion did not hold me back for long as I ran to His open arms.
About a foot before I get to the open arms of Jesus I stopped and said, “Oh, wait I am suppose to worship you right now, aren’t I, I am so sorry I didn’t do that first?” I was so caught up in running to His embrace that I didn’t let my list of “the how to’s with God” effect me. After I asked him this question I looked up at Jesus waiting for His response and he tenderly responded with this, “You can do that in a little bit, let’s go play right now.” I was shocked…play…really…okay! I then asked, “Well, what do you want to play?” He responded with, “Let’s play tag, your it” as He touched my arm and began to run! I began to chase after Him like a little child, no worries, no stress, no judgement, no obligations, no restraints, just pure enjoyment of Jesus! Oh His laugh, I wish I could describe it…it was deep and filled with a joy that washed over me and brought life to the dead places. It was an amazing experience that I didn’t want to end. By the way, I never could outrun his touch!!
After some time Jesus then slowed his pace and came to a stop. He then turned to me and said, “I enjoyed you!” Those words wrapped around and in me reminding me of just how much God loves me. In that moment I was saddened because I knew I was going to have to wake up. I asked Jesus if it was time for me to go and He said, “Yes, Jessica you need to know that I am proud of you, but take time to enjoy me. Do what I have called you to do, but don’t forget to delight yourself in me!” Jesus then reminded me then, “Jessica your enjoyment of me is worship!”
I believe that word was not just for me but for all of His children. Delight yourself in Him. Have you gotten so caught up in Kingdom works that you have forgotten to just enjoy Him? Has your serving God turned into a burden? Is your perspective of God one where you feel like God is always disappointed with you or He is always going to ask you to do something you don’t want to do? Is your perspective of worship placed only within the boundaries of Sunday morning singing?
Delighting in God is to enjoy Him. Enjoy His presence. Enjoy His creation. Enjoy the blessing He has poured out. Enjoy the miraculous work that He does that you could never do. When we enjoy God we are bringing Him worship. Worship is a lifestyle of just delighting in who God is!! Go enjoy God today, have some fun with him…you will be blessed!!
