This week I have been wrestling with what to even write about, not that there isn’t anything to write about. I just realized that this week I have been pressuring myself to fulfill expectations that I have placed upon myself. My desire is to speak a word of encouragement each week to everyone who reads this. So in the midst of my stressing to find some encouraging words to share with each of you, I found God telling me that my expectations were unnecessary. I needed to stop looking to come to Him for a “word” but to just come to Him. The only expectation I have that is necessary- is to sit in God’s presence. To spend time with Him and get to know Him more. That is not a forced thing by God it is a choice I have made. Yet I have found that when I daily choose to sit in His presence I am freed from all other expectations I have tried to place on myself. When I am with Him I experience peace and refreshment. There is no pressure of what I have to do or who I have to be.
So on that note this is the word God gave me this morning that I want to share with you. It’s Psalm 100 from The Passion Translation.
“Lift up a great shout of joy to the Lord! Go ahead and do it – everyone, everywhere! As you serve Him bring your gift of laughter and be glad as you worship Him. Sing your way into His presence with joy! And realize what this really means – We have the privilege of worshipping the Lord, our God. For He is our Creator, and now we belong to Him! We are the people of His pleasure. You can pass through His open gates with the password of praise. Come right into His presence with thanksgiving. Come bring your thank-offering to Him and affectionately bless His beautiful name! For the Lord is always good and ready to receive you. He’s so loving that it will amaze you! And He is famous for His faithfulness toward all. Everyone knows our God can be trusted, for He keeps His promises to every generation.”
I just want to encourage you today to look at the expectations you have placed on yourself or that have been placed on you, are they necessary? You know when you come into God’s presence and line your heart up with what He says is necessary – you will experience peace and freedom and find out which things are really important and necessary! This is not an escape from reality it is actually stepping into reality. The rest of the pressures we place on ourselves are just unnecessary.
