Wise Guy’s Book Review and Giveaway

Recently I had the opportunity to review Kent Evans new book called Wise Guys: Unlocking Hidden Wisdom From The Men Around You. Kent’s book was provided by Fly By Promotions in exchange for my honest opinion.

You may be wondering why I read a book written for men?  Well, I thought it would be a great book that my husband would enjoy. Also, with Father’s day around the corner I thought it may be a good gift idea   (hint, hint)!

Kent Evans is the board chairman and co-founder of Manhood Journey, a ministry that helps fathers and mentors build the next generation of godly men.  Kent has personally experienced how the guidance of godly men can change the course of a life.

Wise Guys

The premise of Wise Guy’s is the importance of mentoring. Kent talks about how the method of learning from others more experienced, talented or wise than ourselves has become a lost art. We live in a world that esteems the self-reliant man and going at life alone while throwing out the treasure of wisdom. If you are willing, you can learn from others success and failures and avoid unnecessary life sufferings; that is what gaining wisdom is all about.

Wise Guy’s is a book compiled of 16 different nuggets of wisdom that Kent Evan’s has learned throughout his life that he is willing to share with his readers. Kent takes a light hearted approach at talking about weighty life lessons that makes you laugh while shaking your head in a “been there, done that” kind of relating. Along with these lessons, Kent also shows the reader that if you have a teachable heart you can find a number of mentors in your life, a mentor does not have to just be one person that you learn from. We actually do ourselves a disservice when we limit our learning to just one person. Kent also has some great tips in how to put yourself in a receiving mode for wisdom and how to tap in to getting the most out of your mentoring relationships.

I would recommend this book for any man out there who is looking for wisdom but needs some direction on how to find it or maybe needs some direction on cultivating those mentoring relationships.
