Wonder Woman Boot’s and a Bath Towel Cape

One my favorite games that my sister and I would play growing up, was when we would pretend to be Wonder Woman! Both of us would put on a pair of my mothers wedge heel boots (that came up over our knees) and tie bath towels around our necks (an obvious cape).

Not only did we look amazing, but we did a superb job of defeating the villains in our pretend world! The only problem that we constantly ran into was the fit of my mothers boots. It was hard to battle in shoes that were too big for us, but we looked good, so the boots were a must!images-3

This past Sunday my pastors sermon was about David fighting against Goliath. He was teaching specifically about the time when King Saul was trying to get David to use his (the king’s) armor. As David tried on Saul’s armor, he realized the armor was too big and he could not move as well as he needed to. It was the wrong fit. The picture of my sister and I dressed as Wonder Woman in our oversized boots came to mind, but unlike us, David decided to ditch Saul’s armor and go into battle with Goliath empowered by the strength God gave him, and was victorious. David put on the armor of God.

This week I have been studying the Armor of God in Ephesians chapter 6. In the past when I have studied this passage I have inadvertently thought that the Armor of God was very similar to our military now, in that, each soldier is issued there own battle gear. I assumed that since each believer is a part of the Lord’s Army we are issued spiritual armor that goes under a brand of being the Armor for God’s army. But that is not what the scriptures say…

Put on the full suit of armor that God wears when He goes into battle, so that you will be protected as you fight against the evil strategies of the accuser! Ephesians 6:11 (The Passion Translation)

The suit of armor that you and I are given to put on is not issued gear, it is the armor God himself wears when He goes into battle! Do you realize how amazing that is? The armor that you put on is not some cold piece of armor, it’s actually still warm from God using it! What’s even more amazing, is that God’s armor is nothing like Saul’s armor for David, which was to big and bulky, God’s armor is the perfect fit for each of us! Furthermore, Saul’s armor would have rarely or never been used in hand to hand combat, since he was the king. God’s armor has been battle tested! God’s armor has been well used in hand-to-hand combat, yet it has no kinks or weak spots in it.

I don’t know how that makes you feel, but it makes me realize that the armor I’m using to fight with is nothing like my mothers boots! I could never move and fight as freely as I needed in her boots. Knowing that God equips me with His personal armor, and that it is a perfect fit for me, gives me confidence, I know I’m protected. God has exactly what you and I need to defeat the enemy, His protection and provision is always at hand, we just have to use it! We have to reach out and put it on.

Daily you and I are in a battle. You may be fighting with a family member or a co-worker, but your real battle is not against them. Your hand-to-hand combat is not with human beings, your fight is in the spiritual realm. The enemy’s focus is to destroy your life and that includes your marriage, your family, your friendships etc. You are fighting against the enemy who’s focus is to hold the people of this world in bondage. Because of this, you and I have got to wear all of the armor that God provides, so that we will be protected when we confront the enemy. The good news is, you and I are already victorious in Christ! Christ has already won the battle! So when you stand against the enemy, stand as the victorious warrior that you are because of Christ in you! Whatever battle you are fighting right now fight from the stance of victory using our Father’s armor!

Be supernaturally infused with strength through your life-union with the Lord Jesus. Stand victorious with the force of his explosive power flowing in and through you. Ephesians 6:10 (The Passion Translation)

I never thought about my armor still being warm from when God uses it! I love that!! It’s a more personal fit now.
